This is a pretty micro-level thing - as thought by most CA students. But let me tell you, this is a major strategy which can help you increase your writing speed. Read on...
This is again an answer I have taken from Quora, written by Anand V Kabra. I must say, I have not read any other piece on this topic anywhere else as detailed as what Anand has explained. So the next few paragraphs are all his analysis, with a few observations from my side...
Which pen to use for CA exams becomes a critical question when it comes down to maintaining good writing speed with good presentation of answers - as you must have read in one of my previous posts. However subjective decision this might be, one should take into account the following factors before picking up a pen from your nearby shop:
shape and size of your fingers,
style and the way you hold it,
Grip comfort,
Size of tip & ink flow
Easy availability of refills
From the exam point of view:
Use the one, you have been using during your preparation,
Do not use a brand new pen, always try to write down 1 or 2 pages with the pen you are supposed to use in exams - ensures a smooth flow in writing.
Avoid "use & throw" pens, & other low-quality pens as they generally leave spots / thick dots on paper front & backside, which may leave a bad impression.
Although ICAI has recommended using eye-catching a BLACK BALL POINT pen, Anand personally prefers the following gel pens (because they are not specifically prohibited)
Pentel ~ Ener gel /Dx (0.7)
0.7 point for thick writing,
Waterproof & quick dry
Reach black ink, eye-catching, pleasant one to readout
Refile costs Rs.20/-, size is equivalent to 3 refills of a general gel pen
Costs Rs 30/-
Rorito ~ Big Tank (earlier know as Max ink)
As the name suggests, for a fully loaded one, it costs ₹ 25/-
Writes equivalent to 4x or 5x of general gel pen refill, costing ₹ 10/-, economical
Nice grip, neither too thick, nor too thin
You can be tension free of running out of ink during the exam hours
Rorito ~ DIGIMATE / TEKBRID / TCHNO POINT
A Trimax & Luxer Pilot 0.5 alternative with a thinner point
Blend of Ink pen & Ball pen
Pen cost ₹ 35/- & refill takes ₹ 15/- again writes equivalent to 4 refills
Some other choices are:
Cello Butter gel
Cello Butter flow
Cello Pin Point
Linc H2O
While the above suggestions are all personal views of Anand, I personally would suggest you to use that pen with which you are most accustomed to writing or can become most accustomed to writing before the exams. Exams are not the best place to experiment. I personally did not have the rule of Black ballpoint pen during my time, so was saved from all these considerations :p
Hope you will find this useful. Thanks for reading:)
