CA May 2020 exams have been postponed to November 2020. The day this was announced, the rumour mill started that the November 2020 exams will be really tough. This post explores the probability of this happening and the consequences on the CA students. Read on...
Every student joining the CA course knows that it is tough. And the fear of failing the exams starts to set in. This fear usually increases as the exams draw near. But there was an important phenomenon which brought out this fear in the CA students prematurely - and this event was the May exams getting postponed to November.
There is a lot of talk on social media about the November 2020 exams. Some highlights of what is being said are as follows:
The competition has increased manifold
Pass percentage may fall due to the economic situation
Exams will be tougher
There is a very low probability of passing the exams in November 2020
Checking will be strict and it will be difficult to score marks, etc. etc....
Though I am not anyone connected with the ICAI, let me put down my views on some of these observations of my beloved FCAs (future CAs).
The Indian CA course is valued and respected worldwide for its quality and toughness. CAs from India are also treated with respect only because we prove our capabilities by going through this tough course and coming out with a strong conceptual and practical base. Nothing comes easy in this course. So if you have joined this course thinking that your passage will be easy or made easy by someone, I am afraid, your assumptions need to revisited.
However, this storm kicked up by the social media surrounding the difficulty level of the exam paper appears to be totally irrelevant and baseless to me. If I badly want to be a CA and clear the exams, firstly the difficulty level of the paper should not bother me, and secondly, the preparation and strategy should be such that you can score marks even in a difficult paper.
Regarding the remarks made on increased competition and reduced pass percentage, I think the students are only thinking a bit too much here. The metric of pass percentage should be used with caution because it comes with a huge base effect. There is a huge difference if I say 3 people passed in the exam out of 100, as compared to 3000 people passed out of 100,000. Even if we keep that aside, I don't see how increased competition can spoil your chances of passing the exams. If you have prepared well and have a sound strategy of how to attempt the paper, I don't see how anyone can stop you from clearing the exams.
So all I want to say is that you should not bother about all these comments coming from anyone around you or on social media. Your chances of passing the CA exams are in YOUR hands - it all depends on your preparation and the reflection of it on your answer sheet.
Remember - "Effort is important, but knowing where to make an effort makes all the difference".
